According to a recent report in MEMRI, Egypt’s prestigious Al Ahram newspaper, which is associated with the Egyptian government, has been predicting the annihilation of the State of Israel and praising Hamas.

According to a recent report in MEMRI, “The Egyptian government daily Al-Ahram recently published two articles by journalist Gamal Zahran in which he congratulated Hamas on its “great victory” in the war against “the Zionist entity” (Israel) and claimed that the latter is decisively and rapidly on its way to extinction.”
MEMRI added, “These articles join other pieces recently published in the Egyptian press that hoped for Israel’s disappearance, despite the fact that Egypt is playing a significant role in mediating between Israel and Hamas and overseeing the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between them.”
In an article published on November 6, 2025, Zahran wrote: “The main question is whether the Zionist entity [i.e., Isreal] is on its way to extinction. The answer is decidedly yes. This entity has already completed its role.”
According to Zahran, “There are many reasons for the downfall of the Zionist entity. The most important of them is that the Palestinian resistance [i.e., Hamas] launched the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ – namely the October 7, 2023 [attack] – in a powerful, unprecedented and one-time manner, thereby creating a [sharp] divide between two eras: before the Flood and after it. For two years this resistance prevented the enemy from achieving victory, from breaking its will and from stopping it. [Then] it forced America to conduct negotiations on the [Zionist] entity’s behalf, and to unite with it to the point of erasing it and making decisions [in its name], as if there is no longer a state called the Zionist entity.”
“[Another reason for Israel’s impending doom] is the unprecedented implosion of its internal arena: millions were forced to flee in terror from the rockets of the resistance [that came] from every direction; the issue of the ‘Haredim’ [ultra-Orthodox Jews] blew up, and the economy deteriorated, with losses estimated at between 100 and 150 billion dollars,” Zahran wrote. “Major economic sectors were paralyzed. In addition, there is the rift within the entity’s army, of which there are countless indications…”
According to Zahran, “The third reason is the Zionist failure in the [international] campaign and the growing calls in America and Europe to stop supporting the failing Zionist entity, which does nothing to protect the interests of the West. For these reasons and others, the Zionist entity will soon meet its end…”
In an earlier article, from October 25, Zahran contended that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas is a strategic defeat for the former and a great victory for the latter, writing: “The Sharm Al-Sheikh Summit constitutes an official declaration of the Zionist entity’s defeat by the Palestinian resistance, and an announcement of the American attempt to save the situation created by the defeat, the setback and the arrogance of the Zionists. Strategic thinking may suggest that the criterion for victory and defeat lies in the achievement of goals: if you declared certain goals but failed to achieve them, you have been defeated, and vice versa. Hence, Trump’s declaration of peace is in fact a declaration of [Israel’s] defeat, accompanied by an attempt to obscure this fact through staging and props [that will allow] Netanyahu a respectable appearance on television.”
Zahran concluded, “”In fact, the Palestinian resistance had already agreed in principle to the proposal of the negotiator, Trump. That is, it agreed to a cessation of aggression [by Israel], a Zionist withdrawal [from Gaza], a prisoner exchange, and the entry of 600 trucks of food aid per day. [However,] it rejected the other parts of the proposal, while preserving its strength and its ability to [conduct] negotiations. This is a strategic defeat for the Zionist entity and a great victory for the Palestinian resistance despite the disparity in their balance of power. Congratulations to the resistance!”
