Ahead of Israel’s Memorial Day, the State of Israel published data on all of the civilian causalities from all the terror attacks in Israel over the years, alongside data on all of the country’s fallen soldiers. Israel’s Remembrance Day will be observed on the evening of Tuesday April 29, 2025 and will end on April 30, 2025, which marks the start of Israeli Independence Day. Traditionally, sirens will be sounded on Tuesday evening at 8pm and Wednesday morning at 11am, so that everyone across the country can stand for a moment of silence. Official and private memorial ceremonies will also be held.
According to the data that was released, 5,229 civilians were murdered in terror attacks in Israel since 1851, Arutz Sheva reported. According to the report, 4,503 were murdered since the foundation of the State of Israel in 1948, 800 of the victims were children and teens under the age of 18, and 211 were foreign nationals killed in terror attacks over the years.
Since last Memorial Day, 79 civilians have lost their lives in acts of terror; 934 civilians have been murdered since October 7th, 2023, of which 778 civilians were murdered during the massacre itself, Arutz Sheva reported. During the October 7 massacre, 1,200 Israelis were massacred in total and 251 were abducted to Gaza. According to the report, of those murdered since the war began, 615 were men, 319 were women, 58 were children under the age of 18, and 76 were foreign nationals.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the October 7 massacre resulted in the creation of 1,023 orphans, 257 widows and widowers, 2,053 bereaved brothers and sisters, and 1,143 bereaved parents. According to the report, since 1851, terror attacks have created 4,753 orphans, 1,058 widows and widowers, 6,155 bereaved siblings, and 2,346 bereaved parents, Arutz Sheva reported.
This past year, JNS reported that 1,647 Israelis have joined the community of bereaved families, including 487 bereaved mothers and fathers, 85 widows and 163 orphans. As of Friday, there are 8,674 bereaved parents, 5,391 widows, 10,302 orphans and 34,250 bereaved siblings living in Israel, JNS reported.
According to the report, the Israeli Defense Ministry revealed that the number of Israeli military casualties from 1860 to today is 25,417, the Jerusalem Post reported. Since Israel’s Remembrance Day 2024, 316 more soldiers have been killed, along with 61 disabled veterans who passed away due to their wounds and were recognized as fallen soldiers during the year, the Jerusalem Post added.
The total number of civilians who have suffered from hostilities in Israel stands at 89,712, of which 75,995 have occurred since the October 7 massacre and during the war, the Jerusalem Post reported. According to the report, of the 75,995 victims of hostilities, 31,112 individuals applied for disability benefits due to terrorist activity. Among them, 24,212 were recognized for personal injuries, 1,169 for physical injuries, and 1,048 for both mental and physical harm, the Jerusalem Post added. According to the report, medical committees are currently reviewing the remaining applications.
