An 85-year-old man who was wounded when his home was hit by an Iranian missile in Rehovot during last month’s 12-day war has died of his wounds, the Times of Israel reported. According to the report, the reports do not identify the man, who was reportedly rescued in moderate condition from the building and treated at Kaplan Medical Center in the city, where his condition was said to have fluctuated over the past six weeks.
Arutz sheva reported that the man was rescued from under the wreckage by Zaka volunteers who arrived at the scene shortly after the impact of the Iranian missile. According to the report, the incident occurred on June 15th, at around 3:00 a.m., when Rehovot sustained two direct hits during an Iranian ballistic missile barrage. Several residential buildings were destroyed where the victim was injured, and severe damage was caused to buildings and stores within a range of hundreds of meters from the impact site, Arutz Sheva noted.
Elhanan Roth, the commander of the ZAKA-360 unit, who oversaw the forces at the scene, stated: “This is a difficult day for me and the volunteers. We rescued wounded and trapped individuals from the severe destruction, and from one of the apartments, we heard the voice of the elderly man, who was moderately injured. We approached the wreckage and spoke to him to understand his condition, and after that, with assistance from additional forces, we retrieved him from the rubble. Today, we unfortunately received news of his death.” According to various media reports, he will be buried on Monday in Rehovot.
This brings the death toll in the war with Iran to 31, including a woman who suffered a cardiac arrest and died when the alarm was raised, Haaretz reported. During the Iranian missile barrage on June 15th in Rehovot, Arutz Sheva reported that 37 injured victims were evacuated to hospitals, including two in severe condition, 12 in moderate condition, and 23 with minor injuries.
His death comes a few weeks after that of a nursing worker from the Philippines, who died in mid-July after spending several months in the hospital after an Iranian missile hit her home in Rehovot, Haaretz noted. According to the report, an Iranian missile hit her home, as well as the homes of about 40 foreign nursing workers, most of them from the Philippines and some from India, according to the Hotline for Refugees and Migrants.
According to Israel’s Ministry of Health, 2,517 Israelis were injured as of 20 June, 2025, of which 107 were admitted due to anxiety attacks. At the time of the ceasefire, the Times of Israel reported that Iranian strikes killed 28 Israeli civilians and one off-duty soldier, and caused 3,238 hospitalized injuries. And now, two more civilians have perished due to wounds that they sustained due to the Iranian missile strikes.
The Israel-Iran war, which began on June 13 with overnight Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, caused widespread damage to homes, a hospital, and university buildings in Israel, Haaretz reported. According to the report, it ended after 12 days with a U.S.-mediated cease-fire.
