According to a recent report in MEMRI, Egyptian journalist Muhammed Abu Fadl accused Hamas of inciting against Egypt in order to strengthen the Muslim Brotherhood.

According to a recent report published by MEMRI, “In a July 30, 2025 article in the London-based Emirati daily Al-Arab, Egyptian journalist Muhammad Abu Fadl harshly attacked Hamas, accusing it of trying to undermine the Egyptian regime in the service of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB). The article was published in response to a speech by Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya, who lives in Qatar, in which he slammed Egypt and Jordan for not doing enough to help the Palestinians in Gaza and called on their peoples to storm the borders with Israel.”
MEMRI continued, “Abu Al-Fadl writes that Hamas, with the support of its allies, manufactures crises, even at the expense of the Palestinian people, in order to maintain its political power and save itself “from the guillotine that is being prepared for it” in discussions about the day after the war. As part of this, he adds, and in order to help the MB, Hamas seeks to drag Egypt into a war with Israel, so as to destabilize it and to overthrow its regime. Neither Hamas not the MB have any qualms about toppling Arab countries if it serves their interests, he says. In implicit criticism against the state of Qatar, which hosts Khalil Al-Hayya and is a patron of the MB, Abu Al-Fadl also notes that Al-Hayya refrains from directing his criticism at certain ” countries he knows very well, which claim to be the only ones standing with Gaza when they are [in fact] secretly collaborating with Israel.””
Muhammad Al-Fadl declared in his article, “”Khalil Al-Hayya has revealed MB positions that he previously tried to conceal. The speech he delivered from Doha, [Qatar], to the Arab and Islamic peoples – which bluntly repeated the claims of MB affiliates who want to drag Egypt into a war with Israel at any cost – was a political scandal. [He and his supporters] have used every kind of political folly and incited revolution in [Egypt] in order to enable [the MB] to return to power, which it lost in a popular uprising just one year after seizing it – a fact that shows just how politically disastrous [the MB] is.”
According to him, “”The only thing that interests Hamas is to save itself from the guillotine that is being prepared for it in discussions about the day after the war. Because ceding power in Gaza, albeit a devastated Gaza, is one of the main conditions presented [to Hamas] by Israel, the U.S. and many regional and international forces. That is why it maneuvers and invents excuses to thwart the delivery of humanitarian aid [to Gaza], or [tries to] start a side war with Egypt by prompting it to provoke Israel, so as to plunge the region into a new conflict that will allow it and the MB to survive politically. Calm will not leave Hamas room for deception and will jeopardize its future.”
Al Fadl continued, “”Hamas, and the MB that warmly embraces it, feed on chaos and believe that creating havoc is the solution, while ignoring the potential harm to Egypt. [Their] narrow ideological interests supersede [their] broader patriotism. In all the recent rounds of talks with Israel, Hamas never once suggested to discuss the future of the Palestinian cause, nor did it discuss the issue of Jerusalem or propose anything to do with the Palestinian people as a whole. The problem is that it is defending its future as an ideological movement that wants to implement its ideology. [Hamas], like the MB, does not care whether Egypt, or any other Arab country, is lost. Neither of them learned a lesson from the collapse and disintegration of certain countries. They think that this situation [of collapse and disintegration] is the only thing that will ensure their survival and that any powerful Arab army will only be a barrier to [realizing] their interests.”
According to him, “the MB has not given up its intense desire to settle old scores with the Egyptian state, and the best way to do this is to downplay Egypt’s humanitarian role and blame it for the crisis in the Strip, in order to embarrass and provoke it and destabilize it militarily and politically. This could cause the situation in the region to deteriorate, possibly allowing Hamas to evade responsibility for the present crisis and giving the MB an opportunity to create chaos and brandish empty slogans at Egypt’s expense.”
He concluded, “”Al-Hayya doesn’t mind seeing Egypt die so that Hamas can live. What he cares about is finding a plan for Hamas to avoid the unknown fate that awaits it. He follows the orders of the global MB, which believes in creating chaos around Egypt and pressuring its leadership. But Egypt’s experience has allowed it to preempt Hamas’s leader, understand the MB’s way of thinking and anticipate their moves. The speech by Egyptian President Abd Al-Fattah Al-Sisi on Monday [July 28, 2025][3] thwarted many plans of the MB and its proxies in Gaza. Part of it dealt with the humanitarian aid to the Strip and another, more important, part called on U.S. President Donald Trump to find a way to stop the Gaza war. This greatly angers Al-Hayya and his friends, since it involves arrangements in which Hamas will have no influential role. Al-Hayya needs to know that Egypt is not affected by slanderous propaganda and will not be swept after a movement that lost most of its battles due to foolish mistakes…”
