On Saturday, the Hamas terror organization engaged in psychological warfare when they published a disturbing propaganda video that showed a sign of life for the hostages Elkana Bohbat and Yosef Ohana, yet revealed the dire condition in which both men find themselves in now. In the last video published of them, they looked pale and were sitting on the floor, the Jerusalem Post reported.
In the video, Ohana is seen tearfully addressing the camera, Israel Hayom reported. According to the report, he identifies himself as “Prisoner Number 22” and points to Buchbut, calling him “Prisoner Number 21.” Israel Hayom noted that Bohbot lies silently beside him throughout the footage. “But I don’t want to talk about myself,” Ohana says. “I want to talk about him, because his mental and physical condition is very bad.”
Ohana describes how, since hearing that the war would stretch on for many more months – and realizing how much that endangers their lives – Bohbot has not stopped trying to harm himself, Israel Hayom reported. According to Ohana, Bohbot attempted suicide again a few days ago and had to be physically restrained by Ohana and a Hamas terrorist. “As a result, he also tried to hurt us. And since then, this is how things have been. Every minute here has become critical.”
According to Israel Hayom, Ohana explains that Bohbot has stopped eating and drinking, and is unable to function at all. “He can’t do anything but think about his son, Raam, and his wife, Rivka. He’s not functioning.” In solidarity, Ohana says, he too has stopped eating: “My friend’s fate is my own.”
It was revealed in February that Bohbot, who has asthma, is being held in inhumane conditions in the Gaza tunnels, Channel 12 reported, citing testimony from a released hostage who was held with him, the Jerusalem Post noted. During his time in captivity, Bohbot developed a severe skin disease caused by the dismal conditions in which he is being held, the Jerusalem Post added. “Of course, he did not receive proper medical treatment,” the released hostage was cited as saying by the news outlet. According to the Jerusalem Post, Bohbot was held along with five other hostages in a narrow, 30-meter-deep tunnel. The Jerusalem Post stressed that they could barely stand or walk due to a lack of space and slept on a damp sheet full of mold.
Bohbot, 35, from Mevaseret Zion, was kidnapped from the Nova music festival in Re’im, where he worked as part of the event’s production team, Arutz Sheva reported. At 8:00 AM, he spoke to his wife Rivka and told her, “Everything is fine, I’m trying to evacuate people, I will come home.” About an hour later, contact with him was lost, and later, Rivka received a video from Elkana’s friend which had been posted on social media, from which she understood that he had been kidnapped, Arutz Sheva added.
According to the report, Ohana, 24, from Kiryat Malachi, was also kidnapped from the Nova festival. He was classified as missing for two weeks until his family was informed that he had been kidnapped to Gaza, Arutz Sheva added. According to testimonies from the festival, he assisted the wounded at the scene before he was abducted.
