The IDF shot down a ballistic missile that the Houthis in Yemen fired at Southern and Central Israel, the Jerusalem Post reported. Israel Hayom reported that sirens sounded in Southern Israel Tuesday night after almost two months without alarms being sounded.
The IDF stated, “Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in central and southern Negev, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF prior to crossing into Israeli territory. Sirens were sounded in accordance with protocol.”
Arutz Sheva reported that the sirens were sounded in Be’er Sheva, Dimona, Yeruham, Nevatim, Segev Shalom, Tel Sheva, and more localities. According to the Red Alert application, the sirens were also sounded in Abu Talul, Wadi Al Naam, Dudaim Site, Tel Sheva, Sde Boker, Merhav Am, Ben Gurion College, Tifrash, Retamim, Revivim, Omer, Mashabei Sadeh, Tlalim, Hatzerim, Gilat, Bir Hadaj, Ashalim, Eshel HaNassi, Qasr Al Sir, Oron Industrial Zone, and Abu Qrenat.
Arutz Sheva reported that Houthi leader Abdel-Malek al-Houthi sent a threatening message to Israel following US President Donald Trump’s latest warning against both the Houthis and their Iranian masters: “The naval blockade of Israel is a first step. If the hunger in Gaza increases, we cannot wait and see that our position remains at this level. If the situation requires it, we will not hesitate to take greater action.”
Israel Hayom reported that residents of Southern Israel reported witnessing the missile in the air, south of Israeli territory, before an Arrow defense system missile struck and destroyed the incoming ballistic projectile. According to the report, the interception was visible to many observers on the ground, who described seeing the engagement in the skies.
Magen David Adom emergency services reported that no physical injuries had been recorded from the incident, though several people were treated for anxiety. This was the first time that the Houthis managed to fire directly at Israel since the cease-fire went into effect on January 19th.
According to the Jerusalem Post, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree stated that the terror group launched a “Palestine 2” hypersonic ballistic missile that targeted the IDF’s Nevatim Air Base, which is located approximately 15 km. east of Beersheba. The Jerusalem Post claims that Israeli missile experts say that the Houthis do possess different kinds of ballistic missiles but not actually hypersonic ones, though they like to exaggerate their capabilities.
The Jerusalem Post added that IDF sources said that absent the American attacks on the Houthis in recent days, the Yemeni terror group might have fired even earlier on Israel and with a larger volume of attacks.Throughout the war, the Jerusalem Post reported that the Houthis fired on Israel over 400 times.
