At 10:53am on Sunday morning, the bomb sirens were sounded in Abu Ghosh, Beit Shemesh, Beitar Illit, Efrat, Ein Geddi, Hebron, Jerusalem, Kiryat Arba, Masada, and other areas across the Dead Sea, Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria regions. The IDF said it intercepted a missile launched by the Houthi rebels in Yemen, targeting Israel on Sunday, Yedioth Achronot reported.
According to the report, flights to and from the Ben-Gurion International Airport were suspended for a short while during the attack. Yedioth Achronot claims that shrapnel fell in the Hebron area according to Palestinian sources. Footage circulated on social media showed what appeared to be the burnt shrapnel of a THAAD air defense missile that landed in the area, the Jerusalem Post reported.
According to the report, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group was responsible for Sunday’s attack, adding that it fired a missile toward the Ben-Gurion Airport. The Yemeni terrorist group had previously threatened Israel by saying it would impose a “comprehensive air blockade” on Israel by repeatedly targeting the country’s airports, the Jerusalem Post noted.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, the Times of Israel reported. According to the report, it was the third attack in four days, and the fifth since last Sunday. Earlier this month, a Houthi missile slipped through air defenses and hit the grounds of Ben Gurion Airport, injuring six people, none of them seriously, the Times of Israel noted.
In recent weeks, multiple siren alerts have been triggered across the country, including during high-profile events such as Lag B’Omer and the Eurovision broadcast, as part of what the IDF described as precautionary measures in response to detected launches, JNS reported.
The Houthis — whose slogan calls for “Death to America, Death to Israel, [and] a Curse on the Jews” — began attacking Israel and general maritime traffic in November 2023, a month after the October 7 Hamas massacre, the Times of Israel noted. According to the report, the Houthis held their fire when a ceasefire was reached between Israel and Hamas in January 2025.
By that point, according to the report, they had fired over 40 ballistic missiles and dozens of attack drones and cruise missiles at Israel, including one that killed a civilian and wounded several others in Tel Aviv in July, prompting Israel’s first strike in Yemen. Since March 18, when the IDF resumed its offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis in Yemen have launched 39 ballistic missiles and at least 10 drones at Israel, the Times of Israel noted. Several of the missiles have fallen short.
The continued missile launches by the Houthis come after US President Donald Trump announced earlier this month that the US would stop bombing the terrorist group because it had agreed to stop attacking US ships under an Oman-mediated ceasefire deal, the Jerusalem Post reported. However, the accord did not include Israel.
