A Jordanian humanitarian aid truck driver murdered two Israeli soldiers who were coordinating humanitarian aid at the Allenby Crossing on the Jordanian border on Thursday, defense sources told The Jerusalem Post. According to the report, the IDF identified the soldiers who were killed as Lieutenant-Colonel (res.) Yitzhak Harosh, 68, from Jerusalem, and Sergeant Oran Hershko, 20, from Tel Mond.
The Jordanian aid truck drive4r began the terror attack from the second that he entered into the Israeli side of the border, the Jerusalem Post reported. According to the report, he opened fire before reaching the inspection area, first exiting his truck, firing at all the people in the area, and then stabbing them.
The IDF decided, following the attack, to halt aid entering Gaza from Jordan until all investigations into the attack are completed, Army Radio said. According to the Jerusalem Post, the other routes for bringing humanitarian aid into Gaza will continue as usual.
The terrorist was neutralized by security forces at the scene, Israel Hayom reported. According to the report, Magen David Adom first responders initially reported two men who sustained gunshot wounds, aged approximately 60 and 20, who were in critical condition and unconscious. One died several minutes after the attack begun, while the second one was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, Israel Hayom noted.
The death toll among Israeli troops on all fronts since the Hamas-led terrorist attacks in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, now stands at 910, JNS reported. Meanwhile, Jerusalem’s Foreign Ministry wrote in an X post that the terror attack was “yet another result of the vile incitement in Jordan. Israel facilitates humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the terrorists exploit it to murder Israelis,” the ministry wrote in English, adding: “This is the result of the echoing of Hamas’s campaign of lies.”
Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel wrote that “Radical Islamists stop at nothing – turning even humanitarian aid, meant to serve civilians, into a weapon of war. This incitement of violence towards Israel must immediately stop,” the deputy minister tweeted. “May the memory of the victims be a blessing.”
The Allenby Crossing has very minimal military forces stationed on a daily basis, with most of the activity handled by the Israel Airports Authority security personnel, Israel Hayom reported. According to the report, it is the main crossing point between Israel and Jordan for non-Israeli citizens and for Palestinians in Judea and Samaria.
Just over a year ago, on Sept. 8, 2024, a Jordanian terrorist opened fire at the Allenby Crossing, murdering three Israelis, JNS reported. According to the report, Israel’s military said the terrorist drove in a truck to the crossing from the Jordanian side. JNS added that he then exited the vehicle and began firing at forces guarding the crossing.
