In a recent report, Palestinian Media Watch reported, “The Palestinian Authority has once again used medieval blood libels of Jews, saying that the Jews poison the wells. Such libels are meant to justify hatred and terror against Jews, just as they did in Europe in the Middle Ages. After Israeli police helped return a flock of sheep stolen from Israelis by Palestinians, a PA official said the following on television.”
Advisor to Head of The Committee to Resist Settlements and the Wall Ayed Morrar told PA TV: “There was an attack on the village of Ras Al-Auja, and they [settlers] took all the livestock they could find, between 800-1,500. Some claim that a total of 1,500 animals were stolen… Moreover, they poisoned the water to kill the Palestinians’ livestock.”
Palestinian Media Watch added: “Ayed Morrar has a history of Antisemitism. Just three months ago, he spread the libel that Jews are only in the Land of Israel because it is good for them financially and they would do anything for money.”
As PA TV reported, he said: “”If an opportunity was given to the expansionist occupation (i.e., Israel) to settle in Egypt and Jordan, they would not miss the opportunity… There is no religious or emotional connection between a resident (i.e., Jews) of the occupation state and this state. They told him: You earn $1,000 in France. In Palestine, you can earn $1,200 or $1,500, and therefore he came for this reason, with international support, to be a military base for the West in the Middle East.”
Palestinian Media Watch stressed: “Official PA television regularly features officials and reporters repeating the well-poisoning libel, such as when a columnist said that Israel was “liable to poison the water” and a reporter said that Jewish rabbis “permit poisoning water wells.””
As the Palestinian columnist told PA TV: “Israel and also the US have many types of weapons that [Israel] could use…It [Israel] is liable to spread viruses; it is liable to poison the water; it is liable to do everything of this nature, perhaps things that we are not even thinking about. Even trees that are growing naturally, crops such as spinach and mallow, they will spray them with toxic substances.”
According to Palestinian Media Watch, “This recurring libel is patently false because both Israelis and the Arabs of Judea and Samaria drink water from the same Mountain Aquifer.” However, it is not the only libel spread in the Palestinian Authority. According to Al Hayat Al Jadida, Israel steals the organs of Palestinian terrorists held in jail, another blatant falsehood based on anti-Semitism.
